Message from Nicole Brown, from LCIF

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Fellow Lions,

I am passing along this message from Nicole Brown, from LCIF.  Please share this with other Lions Club members.

December 26 will mark the second anniversary of the tsunami that struck
South Asia. Because we have 160,000 Lions members in the four most
affected countries, we were able to respond immediately and quickly
assess long-term community needs. As LCIF prepares to allocate the final
$2 million of $15 million in funding, Lions and LCIF continue to rebuild
both communities and lives. In two years, we have rebuilt nearly 3,400
homes as well as orphanages, hospitals and community centers. Plans are
currently underway for projects to help rebuild the economy through job
training programs and vocational centers. With some key media placements
over the next week, we are excited to share the great news with the
general public.

The Chicago Tribune is doing a story on LCIF and Lion’s work in Sri
Lanka with an interview with Benjamin Futransky, LCIF Humanitarian
Grants Coordinator, who just returned last week from visiting some of
the villages being built in Sri Lanka. The story is scheduled to run
early next week.  The Oak Leaves newspaper, which serves Chicago’s
Western suburban communities of Oak Park and River Forest, will also run
a story in their December 27 issue with an interview with Ben.

While you’re enjoying your time off at home, we also hope you’ll
have the opportunity to watch the local news.  Ben is being interviewed
by WGN on December 25 between 8 to 9 a.m. to speak about what he saw
while in Sri Lanka.  International Director Russell Sarver from Illinois
will be on the ABC news at 11:45 a.m. on December 26.  Peter Lynch, LCI
Acting Executive Administrator, is being interviewed by CBS December 26,
time to be determined.

International President Jimmy Ross will speak about Lions’ and the
Foundation’s response to the tsunami on CBS in Lubbock, Texas at 12:20
p.m. on December 26.  He is tentatively scheduled to appear on CNN
International on December 26 as well.  That same day he can also be
heard on WGN Radio, a nationally syndicated program, at 2:10 p.m.
Earlier this week, the president was interviewed by the Lubbock Journal
and San Antonio Express newspapers in Texas.

This is an excellent opportunity to showcase Lions and LCIF.  Please
share this information with Lions, friends and family.

Very Respectfully,

Nicole Brown
Manager, LCIF Communications
